Canine Good Citizen Test

If you think that your dog might be a Canine Good Citizen, then come join us for a CGC test and support the SF SPCA! Mixed breeds and purebreds are welcome. The test will be conducted by an AKC-approved CGC evaluator.  Completion of a Canine Good Citizen Prep class is recommended prior to taking the test, but is not mandatory.  

Topics covered in the test include:

  • Accepting a friendly stranger
  • Sitting politely for petting
  • Appearance and grooming
  • Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
  • Walking through a crowd
  • Sit and down on command and Staying in place
  • Coming when called
  • Reaction to another dog
  • Reaction to distraction
  • Supervised separation

Frequency & Duration: Test typically takes 20 minutes

Fee: $30 per dog

Course prerequisites: All dogs must be current on their vaccinations, including Rabies.
